Standard hijab dimensions and why they matter

Hijab dimensions are not arbitrary. The length and width of a hijab determine how it can be worn, what styles it supports, and whether it will satisfy customers across different markets. Getting dimensions wrong in an OEM order produces product returns and customer dissatisfaction.

Standard jersey hijab dimensions

The global standard for jersey hijabs is 180×70 cm — length × width.

This size is: - Long enough to wrap fully and create a pin-free style - Wide enough to cover the chest and shoulders adequately - Consistent with the majority of hijab tutorials and styling guides online - The default assumption of most consumers when they purchase a "standard" jersey hijab

Variations exist and are commercially viable — but 180×70 cm is the safest default if you have no specific market data to guide a different choice.

Regional size preferences

UK and US markets - Length: 175–185 cm preferred; 180 cm is the commercial sweet spot - Width: 68–75 cm; 70 cm standard - Notes: Instagram and TikTok styling trends in these markets favour a slightly shorter, more controlled drape — very long hijabs can look overwhelming in lifestyle photography

GCC markets (UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait) - Length: 185–200 cm; longer is preferred for more voluminous styles and full coverage - Width: 70–75 cm - Notes: Occasion-wear hijabs in the GCC market frequently run 200 cm to accommodate the layered, draped styles popular for formal occasions

Malaysia and Indonesia - Length: 175–185 cm - Width: 70–75 cm - Notes: Similar to UK/US preferences; instant hijab styles (pre-shaped) have different dimension requirements

Children's hijabs - Age 3–5: 120×60 cm - Age 6–9: 140×65 cm - Age 10–13: 160×68 cm - Adult dimensions from age 13–14

Embellishment and effective length

For embellished hijabs (tassel, lace trim, ruffle), the base fabric dimension does not represent the full visual length of the finished product:

• Tassel embellishment: adds 8–12 cm of visual length at each end
• Lace trim: adds 3–5 cm depending on lace depth
• Ruffle hem: the ruffle adds volume at the edge but minimal additional length

When specifying embellished hijabs, clarify whether your stated dimension refers to the base fabric or the finished visual length including embellishment.

Dimension tolerance in production: ±1 cm on length and width is the standard manufacturing tolerance. If tighter tolerance is required (e.g. for a branded size-match guarantee), specify in the brief.

Measuring and approving dimensions at the sample stage

When your production sample arrives, measure: 1. Overall length (flat, unstretched, from hem to hem) 2. Overall width (flat, unstretched, at widest point) 3. Hem width (the width of the finished hem — typically 0.3–0.5 cm for a rolled hem) 4. Any embellishment dimensions (tassel length, lace depth)

All measurements should be taken on a flat, unstretched sample — jersey fabrics stretch under tension, which produces inaccurate readings.
