GSM Tolerance and Fabric Inspection for Bulk Hijab Orders: A Technical B2B Specification Guide
- GSM should be measured at multiple points across each dye lot rather than taken from one convenient swatch.
- Width, spirality, slippage, and visible defects can affect yield even when the headline GSM is correct.
- A signed lot-approval record prevents disputes when repeat orders use different greige-fabric batches.
Fabric weight is a commercial specification because it affects opacity, drape, cutting yield, freight weight, and consumer handfeel. A buyer who approves only a visual swatch may miss a measurable change between the sample lot and bulk lot.
1. Define the tolerance
The tech pack should state target GSM, acceptable variance, finished width, and whether the measurement is before or after washing. For modal and jersey, the buyer should also define stretch recovery, spirality, and shrinkage limits.
2. Inspect the lot
Take samples from the beginning, middle, and end of the roll or dye lot. Record GSM, usable width, shade under D65 lighting, and defects using a consistent four-point inspection method. Keep the retained swatch with the production report.
3. Link inspection to costing
If usable width falls below the approved specification, fabric consumption per hijab rises and the planned FOB price may no longer reflect the real yield. QIUYAN's technical team can report the variance before cutting so the buyer can approve, rework, or replace the lot.
